Conductor, Pianist and Artistic Director
Michael Cohen-Weissert is a pianist, composer and conductor. he was born in Jerusalem in 1993, and began his musical education at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. In 2008, he moved to Berlin, where he continued his education at the Julius-Stern-Institute and later at Berlin University of the Arts and HFM Hanns Eisler.
His piano teachers were Elena Lapitskaja, Jacques Rouvier and Stefan Arnold. He also attended composition and theory classes held by Elena Mendoza, Manolis Vlitakis and Marc Sabat, as well as chamber Music Classes with Teachers such as Artemis Quartet and Eberhard Felz.
In Addition to his studies he attended Masterclasses and worked with Many different musicians such as Claude Frank, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Bruno Rigutto, Mikhail Voskresensky, Eldar Nebolsin, Aldo Ciccolini, Paul Badura-Skoda and Peter Serkin.
The young pianist has already performed with Israel’s most important orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, as well as with orchestras such as Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock. He has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician in various festivals and venues around Europe, Israel, Asia and The USA, such as the Kfar Blum Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern music festival, the Harmos Festival, the “Kissinger Sommer”, Bowdoin Festival in Maine USA, and the “Festival next Generation” in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.
As a composer, his pieces were performed in venues such as Konzerthaus Berlin, the Berlin House of Representatives, Salon Christophori, and Teatro Civico di Bolzano. In 2019 his first opera AMALIA! was premiered in Bolzano.
In 2019, Michael Cohen - Weissert has founded The Charles Rosen Ensemble, of which he is the conductor and Musical director.
